Avoid The Top 9 Car Dealer Tricks.

Car Dealer Tricks_1 So you're shopping for a new car but you are worried about being taken for a ride by a smooth-talking car salesman. Well have no fear. Buyingadvice.com is here to alert you to the most commonly used car dealer tricks.

  1. Ignore the salesman's hype. Don't let the salesman educate you about the car you intend to buy. Learn about your car from friends or from an online forum.

  2. Don't believe claims like "certified" or "like new" without proof. Before you buy, make sure you get a vehicle history report.

  3. Don't trust the 100 point inspection. Many dealers claim that all their vehicles have undergone rigorous mechanical inspection. Don't believe them. Get the vehicle checked out by a mechanic you trust.

  4. Be aware of recalls. Check to make sure the vehicle you are considering hasn't had a recall. If it has ask about what has been done to the car.

  5. Tune out during the test drive. This is when the car salesman will push hardest for a sale. Our advice is to tune out. Focus instead solely on how the car feels to you. Ask questions but make sure they are direct and specific.

  6. Beware of the phrase "too good to be true". In the world of auto sales-especially from dealerships-if it seems too good to be true it probably is. Don't be afraid to trust your gut and to walk away.
